Each note describes an action, not a diagnosis. Leave unsupported branches open.
Use the active-water sheet when the wet edge is growing or newly visible.
Count affected fixtures and record the lowest change before testing more.
Compare hot and cold at a few representative outlets without removing parts.
Stop unsafe checks and note valve position, duration, and simultaneous use.
Preserve the exact alert, bill period, meter note, or Town message.
Trace the source
Pick the narrowest branch that fits, carry over the location and time, and add another branch only when a second symptom actually appears. This keeps a single-fixture problem from becoming an unsupported whole-system claim.
Repair route and access map
After inspection, annotate the branch with the supported finding and archive routes that were checked and ruled out. Keep unknown or inaccessible areas visibly unresolved.
